I am so excited to share this with you! Realizing that I cannot reveal more chapters of my manuscript while I am working on it (though I will do my utmost best to post fun side content  of the Fireborn world when I have time), I thought I would share this side project with you. As I am sure you know, writers – and creatives in general, are known for their love of side projects. Other known terms for side projects are “methods of procrastination”, “shiny objects”, and in this case, learning exercises. Writing is not a perfect craft, and it takes time and effort to craft your style. And it changes constantly. This side project, as it were, will be a series of five short stories on a little gnome named Finn and his helpful sidekick Mr. Fudge. That’s right. The series title is “The Adventures of Finn and Mr. Fudge”. It’s adorable … and yes I am very proud of myself.

The goal of this exercise in particular is to work on evoking emotion, targeted emotions specifically. Will it work? You will need to let me know. In the meantime, today I will share the character sketch that I’ve written for Finn. Consider it a fun little exercise to get to know the character before I try to write a story about him. Yes it rhymes. At first, I didn’t mean to … and then I couldn’t stop. Enjoy.

Let me introduce you to a little guy named Finn. He has a shock of black hair, a beautiful big nose and an angular pointed chin. Well, actually, his name is Farlakqua Fenn Finneous Feemadoodle Fobb, named after his grampie Bamlaqua Benn Binneous Bermadoodle Bobb. Finn is just mite, you might say, and loves his romper of purple and gray. His smile is so big that it stretches from ear to ear, especially when the clouds are gone and skies are clear.

“Finny Finn!” Ma Fobb sighs, “Your hair is standing three inches high!”. He giggles and laughs as he sits on her knee, her strong shiny armour glinting with glee. Ma Fobb was the strongest and bravest by far, Finn swears she throws the bad guys all the way to the ‘time-out’ star. Finn always gets lots of cuddles and hugs and Ma Fobb helps catch him the buzziest bugs.

His brother Benn Fink is as strong as you think. He stands a whole three and a half feet high and will proudly tell you about his feelings and cry. One day, Finn hopes he will be that tough too. Finn will share his feelings from his point of view.

So please listen along if you have the time and we hope that you may have enjoyed our rhyme. Finn will meet a friend along the way, listening and learning from what he might say. It’s good, we think, to tell a tale, and remind the world that life is not so pale.

  1. Hmm it looks like your website ate my first comment (it was super long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I as well am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to everything. Do you have any suggestions for first-time blog writers? I’d certainly appreciate it.

    1. Oh sorry! So glad you are enjoying the blog. The main advice I can give is write regularly and post consistently. Focus your blog so it handles only a few subjects, preferably related, and branding is really important. Hope that helps!
